Here is another "hidden gem" for you...

The Rolleinar M.C. 2.8/105 was made by Mamiya as part of the economy lenses for Rolleiflex 35 SLR's. So it comes with the typical QBM Mount (flangeback 44,7mm) and problems with infinity. Most of the QBM Mount lenses do have this problem. Sometimes you can solve this, sometimes not.

This Rolleinar was brought to infinity by reducing the thickness of the QBM to EOS Adapter to nearly 1mm !! Now the Adapterring cuts like a knife. So you have to glue the adapter to the lens. So i did it.

Here are some pics, all taken with a EOS 5D FF

The Rolleinar is a very fine lens, great sharpness in conjunktion with high contrast makes it hard to find differences to my Leica Elmarit 2.8/90mm (Leicaflex version)

Open its sharper than the Elmarit.

.. in sunlight at f2.8

The optical design..

The max. close focus distance is about 1.2m, not as good for a 105mm
but ok. (Leica Elmarit 2.8/90mm is near 0.7m)

But the results in the close up distance are great...

100 % pic

And a crop..

The Rolleinar M.C. 2.8/105 is a very small lens and superb for portrait shots...

(heavy sunlight...)

After the adapter work, the infinity seemed to be ok....

100%

and a crop from the pic..

In addition, the bokeh is nice ..

Fazit:

The Rolleinar MC 2.8/105mm is one of my favourit lenses for Portraits and compared to Leica Elmarit 2.8/90mm sharper, compaired to my old 1.9/85mm and 2.8/105mm Super Takumars a lot sharper wide open, with better color definition..

It works with full f-stopps up to 16.
M52 Filters
300g
height 68mm - 80mm, built in hood.

I like this lens for the color reendering an sharpness wide open and mostly it beats my old Elmarit 2.8/90mm. This is a really "hidden gem" and hard to find. If you can find it for <100 Euro.. dont hesitate.

Very nice lens.

Is it a sx mamiya/sekor 2,8/105 mm son?

Not bad lenses between 40 and 135 mm. (As Attila said). Wink

Can we say from 35 to 180 mm? Question

Rino.

Yes, Rolleinars are very good indeed.
I've tried and adored:
- Rolleinar 2.8/85
- Rolleinar 2.8/135

I try the 2,8/135 and is very good.

I found that the rolleinar 1,4/55 mm was in the medium to low in the contrast side (lower than the S-M-C 1,4/50 tak) and moderate barrel distortion -noticiable. I didn't like it so much.

I agree with you, the 1.4/55mm wasn't a real winner. But keep in mind that these lenses labeled Rolleinar was the "economy-line" for the Rolleiflex 35.
The real gem build for the Rolleiflex was the HFT Planar 1.4/50mm.
I did own this for some months and want to adapt this very nice lens to my EOS 5D.. but no chance. Either you shave the mirror or sell it.
I ruined the mirror of the 5 D during the work on the rear fitting of the lens. So now the 5D has a new mirror and new calibration from a Canon Service Point.

On a crop cam the HFT Planar works beautiful and is one ot the best 1.4 Lenses i know.

Is it possible to see some images taken with the 2.8/85 Rolleinar?

I am all the time interested in good portrait lenses. I havent seen a 85mm Rolleinar.

Thanks and greetz

don't tell me that you find a way to bring the old HFT Planar 1.4/50mm to a EOS 5D without mirror shaving.. please dont.

I did sell the lens some weeks ago, cause i didnt find a way for using it on my 5D... arghhh otherwise i am going to be crazy.. arghhhh. Sad

Thanks for sharing the Images..

No no Smile I shaved the back of the lens carefully and after 2hrs of filing I just got 30cm of focus so I've sold it to a 50D owner. Right now I don't have any 1.4/50s (just pancolar 1.8/50 zebra) but would prefer a Zuiko 1.4/50 as I'm sick of carying my big and heavy fast zooms.

It seems a very good lens. Outstanding that crop with the butterfly !
And ,apparently not a big lens , isn't it?

It's an impressive lens. I had the chance to shoot with the very copy that Henry shows us here: amazing!
