The film used was Fuji Reala which is an all time favourite of mine. The image was scanned on an Epson 4990 flatbed.
Incidentally, the cottage in the image is a tourist attraction and is so popular that it's rare to see it without someone pointing a camera at it during the day - it took me all of 20 minutes to get this shot with no one in view - it was also the last frame on the film so I only had one shot at it too, so I made sure the shot counted. 
I just love the vibrancy of Fuji Reala - one of the best films I've used.

They were in a little road opp the Ganton Greyhound hotel on the A64.

Up there for BB for a wedding (near Westow), and the pub/hotel had some great English folk music one night.
You'd probably recognise this shot as well, also suffering from a lack of a wide angle:-

..............the Nikkor 50mm F1.8 is a very sharp lens and I reckon this shot would print to 16X20, but I don't think my Canon 35-70mm would.

I think you'd be pleasantly surprised with the A1 and the 35-70! The A1 is an excellent camera - definitely my favourite 35mm camera! I have three A1 bodies and two AE1's - which are just about as good. The 35-70 can be a good lens if you have a good copy
I have plenty of top end glass to go with the bodies and if I need any 35mm shots, they are what I use!

I know the area well....passed the pub many times!
As for the 35-70, I've had 12 x 16's from it with no probs but can't remember going above this.
