So do you guys know Junku Nishimura?

My favorite photographer on Flickr I think, what do you think?

I love the sense of something foreboding in a lot of the images, dreamlike and surreal and artistic, all using film and Leica rangefinders. He is a master of darkroom techniques as well. I have a number of his prints on my walls...

Very personal, great eye for composition and while the Neopan 1600 is not precisely my ballpark I like how he decided to make the high contrast of that film part of his style. He knows how to use the darkroom.
Thanks for pointing him out, I'll follow his work in future.

Thanks for the link. Some of his shots are great, others do not appeal to me at all. Strange...

Yes I agree, but for example:

Is such a strange and surreal image. I have never seen another like it even remotely.

Wonderful image IMO

Many are pure genius.

The thing that impresses me aside from his timing and darkroom ability.
He seems to have the camera always ready.
It is just not that easy to have your mind completely in it so constantly.
Sure if you shoot an event or something. Many of these grabs are from the most mundane aspects of living.

Thanks Simon
This gallery really gets me clicking Cool

I am not able to explain this --- perhaps I am non-art-sensible person --- Smile

I have to say this --- Nice pictures --
I mean -- REALLY NICE -- but that's all - I can not see more expressions - (or impressions) -- but that's my opinion -- my view ..

Perhaps, I don't understand the context ...

what's the value of these pics? --- light impression? it's brilliant but what's next?

I don't know - equals - I am not sure about myself if I like them ...

TF

I understand that we all come from a different approach when viewing others work.
The last couple of photogs that have been presented in this section have not connected with you.
I wonder if you could show some links to photogs that strike you.
I'm interested to see what you find remarkable Cool

Is very difficult send a message sing a pic for this. I think that there are words behind this images.

Not pleasant portraits of the night, not. Heavy images of reality that he want to show. Strike you or not, but they aren't easy flowers or models.

I like them. It's seem to be all I want to do.

Rino.

That is the trick if I can say so. The eye will learn , with time, to see depper and deeper.

Regarding Junku's work : Wonderful ! Shocked

And remember that he used on the majority of these a 50mm fixed focal lenght lens (Leica on a Leica, of course Very Happy ) and same film; Fuji Neopan 1600 .
Maybe outdoors he also used those darkening filters because the high film's sensitivity. But that's just a supposition.

PS. Almost same style (high contrast) with lights and shadows is used for B&W work by Trent Parke http://www.in-public.com/TrentParke/gallery/66 which I also like.

I like some of the shots, while others just werent as impressive. Some of the photos looked like simple snap shots from a restraunt that anyone could have taken.

Sleeping Students was a nice capture, I also like Puff Light. there were a handful of others i enjoyed also.

Genius? I dont think so... Not IMHO

Art is sooo subjective, you cant please everyone.
