Russian lenses and Nikon bodies

Hi, everybody,

I have been following this group for a few months now and know about adapter problems with Nikon D200 and D700 bodies, because of not being able to focus to infinity (with lense-less adapters), or the reduction in image quality with adapters with an extra-lense.
I also read that there are several Russian lenses that I could use on my two bodies without an adapter and would ask Nikon owners, who have experience with these lenses, which are good to use, and which are questionable. In case this is too specialized and not interesting for everybody, a personal mail would be appreciated too.

Thanks
Thomas

Seymore is quite right and I would add the kaleinar 100/2.8 - it is on a par with the series E nikon lens, but stronger colours/contrast.

If you are interested in some gearing or tinking, you can shave about 2mm from the back element of the lens (M42), or recalibrate inside, so you can have infinity focus!

Thank you everybody for your suggestions and the photos. That was all very helpful.
I'll be in Berlin for a few days in March and will try to find a second-hand camera dealer with Russian lenses or go to a flea-market. Maybe I can pick something up there.

Thanks again
Thomas

Some others not mentioned above....

Nikon F Automatic aperture (Ai ?)

Zenitar N 2.8/16
Mir 47 N 2.5/20
Arsat N 2.8/20 (Mir 73 N)
Mir 20 N 3.5/20
Arsat N 1.4/50
Helios 81 N 2/50
Telear N 3.5/200

Nikon F preset ("A" lenses) - these usually come with an M42 mount which can be easily removed and replaced with an F mount.

Mir 10A 3.5/28
Jupiter 11A 4/135
Tair 11A 2.8/135
Jupiter 21A 4/200

Pentacon 6, Kiev 60 mount - a simple mechanical adapter gives infinity focus - no aperture coupling.

Zodiak 8 (Arsat) 3.5/30
Mir 26 3.5/45
Mir 38 3.5/65
Volna 3 2.8/80
Arsat 2.8/80
Vega 12 2.8/90
Vega 28 2.8/120
Kaleinar 3 2,8/150
Jupiter 36 3.5/250
Telear 5.6/250

Many of these lenses exist in Kiev 88 mount - again a simple adapter permits infinity focus.

EDIT I am assuming that all the lens will mount on the D200/D700 - but I don't know ! My only experience, with some of the lenses listed above, is with the D40x/D60.
