Looks about identical to the Pentacon lens I have. Maybe the glass is different but the mechanics they bought from GDR??

Yes, this seller seems to have a great deal of those kind of things in stock. The odd-ball glass all seems to be professionally refitted to older pentacon/meyer standard bodies.

Probably old military, secret service or government agency surplus, in which case the glass could be anyything, even Western. I've seen some West German or Japanese items originating from the GDR which were camouflaged as Pentacon products. I guess it usually was not a matter of hiding export banned goods from the eyes of Western visitors, but rather that they had to hide pragmatically made black market acquisitions from their own party supervisors.

Great find, Bruce. It looks like it is a Hungarian made Jupiter-9 (made by Magiar Optik Müvek in the 1970s according to the website) in Leica screwmount. At some point it has been fitted on a Pentacon helicoid to be used on an M42 SLR.

Here's some historical data about Magiar Optik Müvek on the website of the shopping center which has been built on the MOM factory site: http://www.mompark.hu/history/site-history

Cheers!

I think that's actually cheap for such an important camera. But that's the historian in me...
