Hi,
is it correct, what this guy is saying about how to recognise a Nikkor 105mm f2.5 Sonnar-type?

Basically he is saying to look at the rear element. It should be visibly smaller compared to other Non-sonnar 105 pre-ai lenses.

Thanks.

It is correct.
105/2.5 Sonnars have smaller rear element, silver nose and a 1xxxxx or 2xxxxx serial number.
105/2.5 Gausses are black-nosed and in the 4xxxxx and above range.

There is also a difference in the Focus scale, at least on the copies I own. The sonnar has a maximum scale reading before the infinity mark of 20m, 60f and the newer version is marked 20m, 70f.

Nope, that 20m/70f thing started later in the K (transitional to AI) version (SN 6xxxxx and above)
There were at least three Gauss versions before that (two P-Autos and one PC-Auto)

Hence - "at least on the copies I own"

Yes it is correct. I own both types and they adhere to this pattern.
