I've bought one for 51USD: Click here to see on Ebay
When I've rechecked the lens from adaptall-2.com site I've seen that the resolution and contrast values in the MTF chart are great. Should I need a 35/2.8 (was thinking of buying Leica-R 45/2. or 85/2.8 (was going to buy Rollei CZ 85/2.8 ) prime or is it like comparing apples with pears. Ok, this is a Turkish proverbs so it may not have the same effect when directly translated:) anyways, you got my point. This zoom looks like a very nice portrait lens.
I guess this duo is unbeatable with an ultra wide prime and a fast 50mm.
Tamron SP 35-80/2.8-3.8
Tamron SP 70-210/3.5
EDIT:
I've changes the subject and added lot's of photos of the lens. _________________ My name is "Yalcin", and exactly "Yalçın" and here you can find my MF samples:

They are very nice lenses indeed, but their quality is not comparable with a high class prime lens. |

There are a couple of threads on the 35-80 SP around here somewhere... it is a very fine lens. I would put it in the class of average prime lenses of the 3rd party sort. It loses a bit in contrast and ultimate resolution to a good prime. It also has a bit of barrel distortion at 35mm.
On the other hand, it beats even an average modern zoom in resolution, has good speed, and unlike most primes it focuses close (and does well doing it), plus of course you can zoom!
I bought this lens new in '85 for my OM2s, and used it as my main lens for 15 years. That's when I got a Pentax auto focus camera. Soon enough I had the adptalls for KA and I and my daughter still use it quite a bit. She sensibly wanted it rather than a prime when she took a Program Plus to photo camp this summer.
In summary: Yes the two primes you mention will be noticeably better. Plus you're a member here... it sort of goes without saying that you'll end up with those primes even if a sane person could be satisfied with just the zoom! _________________ -Jussi

This surely is a fine lens and its focal range (35-80) is nice for your 5D.
