Hello everyone, nice forum you have here.

I recently picked up a Tomioka Yashinon 55mm f1.2 for peanuts and now I have to get it on my EOS digital cameras. The problem is the only aperture control is the pin on the back, and the adapters I've seen all actuate this pin with a flange. Since the rear element on the Tomioka is so big it had to be cut to accommodate the aperture pin, it seems to me one of these adapters would hit the rear element.

So how does one go about adapting this lens while getting aperture control?

Hello Mike. Smile

If there's no auto/manual switch, the easiest way would be to jam the stop-down pin in with something and use an adapter that doesn't have the rear ring.

Hi welcome to here.

If your M42-lens looks like this >

with A/M switch, get an ordinary adaptor without a ledge which
presses the aperture pin. It should work for you.

Cangrats for the 55/1.2 lens, it is truly Tomioka made one since
the rear element was cut out for the aperture pin.

I also have PORST color 55/1.2 K-mount lens, will show the result
from this lens after receiving a K->EF mount adaptor.

Aha! I didn't realize that was the auto/manual switch... I don't even think I noticed it there at all. Problem solved, thanks guys.

Congrats Mike and welcome to the forum.
Be very careful the first time you mount that baby on the adapter.
Clearance can be very tight sometimes.
It is a pretty cool lens. I'm sure you will strike up some envy with it.
Looking forward to your samples Very Happy

I've got a ledge-less adapter on order from eBay, so I should be ready to go next week. In the meantime here's a few shots of the lens:
