Here are some Electro 35 images from a recent visit to Olympic National Park.

Some are cropped, most are not sharpened.

The Electro 35 camera and lens is a nice piece of equipment. It is definitely my backup camera, and sometimes even the #1 camera!

From the closest focusing distance (about .9 meters)

Nice results! Although I wonder what camera could ever look bad in your hands, Larry Smile

I always amazed by results of this camera! Nice samples! Nobody can recognize this is made with 50 USD or less camera. I really, really rate this camera higher than most SLR with their lenses.

The lens on the GSN is certainly a very special thing.

Wonderful shots.

Larry, no matter wich camera you use, you always get wonderful pictures... I'm sure that if you get one day a shoebox with a hole in one side, you would take wonderful pictures as well Wink...
These are superb, congrats.

Jes.

Excelents series for me.

And speacking about yashicas, how the yashinon DX 1,7 (electro 35) compare with the yashinon DX for SRL and the yashinon of the lynx series (5000 and 14) ?

If they are similar, out there are others marvelous.

Rino.

I found Yashica Electro is better than my Nikkor, Olympus OM SLR lenses or Carl Zeiss Jena Shocked

For me you are the forum's lenslearned.

Yashica electro lenses vs. konica S2 ones? Both are super, but for me, hexanons. Did you try them?

Regards, great Attila

Rino.

Wow Larry
These are pure candy. That second one looks mandated from God Shocked
Nice to see some Electro shots from you again.

@ Rino
I think the Electro has a warmer touch with color film than the Konica S2.
The S2 is a very sharp and classic B+W shooter.
I prefer the contrast from the Yashinon when using color neg/slides

Oh yes, Larry! Wonderful!

I love this cam! And your shots prove that it can produce excellent results in the right hands.
Although the first two are superb, my fav is the last one. It tells a story. I really can imagine being there, being this photographer overwhelmed by these impressions and still trying to get this one shot!

Thanks, very much.

Only for comment, I prefer the sharpness and, in slide films, I shot at zone 6, taking meter in -1 (except clare sand, salt at sun, or snow at sun; zone 7). But in taste's questions. . . . . . .

Thanks again. Regards,

Rino.

Larry, as a matter of curiosity, which film did you use for theses shots?

Jes.

I never tried any Konica rangefinder unfortunately, Yashica was first one many thanks for Andy ! I have no clue from Konica is it an expensive one?

Holy Cow! I didn't expect this kind of reaction to these, they were posted as more or less "walking around" shots, in order to ascertain some "real world" opinions about the lens.

But THANKS, that's for sure! Laughing

These scanned very well, with the first one from Provia scanning exceptionally well...I have an inconsistent nature of results from the V700, so I am happy when it goes right for a change!

1st shot - Provia - Scanned at 4800dpi just for the heck of it (greens are dynamite with Provia)
Sharpened at Low Pass with NIK Sharpen program

2nd shot - Provia - 2400dpi
No sharpening
I am amazed at the resolving power of the Yashinon 1.7...the foam tendrils in the water, even in the dark areas, are simply as detailed as it gets!

3rd shot - Reala - 2400dpi (greens go a very slight blue with Reala; scanning is smooth)
Slight Unsharp Mask in PShop at 35/1/0

2400dpi makes about 40MB files
4800MB makes about 82MB files Shocked

What I do when scanning is, I always scan at the maximum optical resolution, then resize (usually down to 50% for important things, and to 25% for normal stuff).
It is time consuming, but it gives me visibly better results than scanning at half the resolution.

HI!

It's a cheap cam - as the classic rf that it is. It has a great lens, with a touch that the summicron M 50 (firts not collapsible) had. Buy it, someday, will be pleasant for you. Sure.

Regards, Rino.

Attila it is a great camera.
Be very careful about the shutter.
With this model I have found the shutter blades can be quite f'd up if it sits too long.
The camera is a very nice user. Similar in size and weight to the electro.
It has a mechanical shutter rather than electronic. This of course allows full manual operation which can be an advantage.

Here is a link to Matt Dentons page with some basic details.

Cool

Thanks you guys for the information about the Konica!

Orio, thank you for the scanner advice...I am going to, more and more, scan at the higher resolutions.

Larry

Here Rino is a thread.
Please feel free to ask if you have more questions.
I have rebuilt many dozens of these cameras now.
