Well, I still have the Viv 135/2.8 on my Oly and shot a couple pics of
thistle today:

The day was overcast, but no rain. These are at f5.6

Beautiful green background they are not bad at all!

Yeah, I like how it takes a palette knife and smears out the background!
There's a strand of spider web in both pics that I didn't feel like cloning
out.

I think that these are really good results.

Thanks, but after looking at your latest Melissa series, I think I'll
take these down and paste them on the refrigerator! Laughing

I do not agree, Bill !
Here you have both very good detail and great bokeh. My Melissa pictures you are refering to, are really very standard telephoto photography, I don't think there is anything special there, or things that could not be done with any other good tele lens. The only real obstacle is the aperture, but by shooting at 400 ISO instead of 100 you would have obtained the same results easily with your Vivitar, which has both acutance and good bokeh.

No, there is a misunderstanding, what I mean is that if you were here, to photograph Melissa together with me, you could have done it with the Viv also, by raising the ISO to 400 (while I could shoot at 100 ISO thanks to the faster lens).
Since today's cameras have good 400 ISO, and there is also good noise software like Ninja, the aperture factor is not as decisive today as it was in the film age.

Thanks, Michael and Carsten,
I need to start using some more of the lenses I have, but I'm so
pleased with the sharpness and ease of focusing with this lens, it's
tough to give it up for something else. I paid $27 (delivered) for a
Chinon CS M42 body plus Chinon 50/1.7 prime, plus this lens and
a Viv 2x teleconverter! Rather hard to estimate what I paid for this,
but it isn't much! Laughing

Thanks again,

Bill
