Have you tried Camerahouse in Kent street Sydney for 2nd hand gear? Once again its not "cheap", but you never know what you may find. |
There are a few shops where I live that I have discovered. In fact there's a second hand book store that is diversifying into film cameras and legacy lenses of all things. He reckons he gets a lot of interest. I sell my junk to him and he offers stuff to me cheaply.
We help each other out
That's where I bought my Nikkor 50mm for $20.
I might even dump this lens at his shop for a 50% loss (I paid $40 after much haggling). I'm better off getting a 200mm Nikkor instead. |
Lucky you!
A Jupiter 21A or 21M 200/4.5 is a nice lens with a good reputation but hard to find cheaply in Australia.
I have done what you are doing now and worked my way through many different lenses. My main brands that I have sort of stuck too are the M42 variety (I have a Pentax camera) Soligor lenses mostly the older kind,Auto Mamiya, any Russian or German lens that I can get cheaply... A few Auto Rikenon lenses.
All I can say is keep researching and keep trying the lenses as they come across your path. _________________ Moira, Moderator

Hey Mo,
I have two good MF lenses now. The Nikkor 50mm F4 and the Minolta Rokkor MC 50mm f1.4.
For now I'll stick with Nikon because I have a D3200. I just bought a non- AI 135mm f2.8 Nikkor Q on EBay so I have to wait for delivery now to see if it has been converted.
In future I will look at acquiring a DDR Zeiss or something similar like a Meyer that has a Pentacon six mount. I can use that mount on my Nikon D3200. I think it's easier for you because of the M42 mount. I'm looking on the AU EBay site but deals there are few and far apart. US site is good but shipping rates to Australia are a killer usually. _________________ Minolta MC Rokkor f1.4 50mm

I reckon it's broken, should surely be better than that. |
Yes it could well be a bad or damaged lens. It's scared me off old after market lenses. _________________ Minolta MC Rokkor f1.4 50mm

M42 lenses are definitely easier to buy
I do note that Oz ebay does have the older Nikkor lenses periodically for sale at what I think are reasonable prices. I have seen a few pentacon siz lenses for sale...and I would always recommend a DDR lens...
Have you tried NZ's trademe website (postage isn't too bad)? and there used to be a photography buy and sell mag "The Photographic trader" Based in Queensland...I used to buy it from the newsagent but they don't stock it any more... _________________ Moira, Moderator

I will eventually check out Trade Me, thanks. For now my lense fever needs a cool down.
I'm going to wait a bit. _________________ Minolta MC Rokkor f1.4 50mm

I was away from home for a week or so, and on my travels I found a Soligor 200mm f4.5 in M42 mount.
It was in the "beginners" section of the photographics department of a large antiques store.
I was expecting it to be soft after reading this thread, but have been pleasantly surprised.
Here it is:
.......and a sample
There is more here:

The barrel of the body out to the focusing ring wobbles somewhat - I wish I knew how to rectify it - otherwise it is a very nice lens.
