I don't do many landscape type of photos with manual lenses. Simply because I don't have any that are wide enough on a crop sensor and the rest aren't the most suitable choice for most situations. Here's a rare manual focus landscape, made with Minolta MD Rokkor 50mm/1.4:

Nikkor 24mm f2.8 AIS, Nikon D600. This is Thunder Creek looking up to the remnants of the Thunder Glacier in North Cascades National Park. The upper basin is a 17-mile hike in from the trailhead. We were there during an extreme lightning storm that blew in shortly after I made this photo. It lasted for hours, and we were concerned about having an aluminum pole standing next to us holding up hour tent!

I took a night hike up into the Entiat Range in Washington state and slept on a ridge at 6,500 feet to get an early start photographing larch trees. The moon was pretty spectacular. This is a 30-second exposure, and I used my headlamp to 'paint' the small larch at lower left and the bigger stand at center right. Nikkor 20mm f3.5 at f5.6, Nikon D600 at ISO 1600.

I adore this picture. It really screams NIKON COLOURS to me, which is a good thing. Smile

Nikkor 25-50mm f4 AIS on a Nikon D600. It's a big lens for its focal length and does well for this sort of landscape shot.

Very nice sun flare.

What was the lens aperture ? f16, f22 ?
Did you use a ND filter ?

PostPosted: Wed Nov 19, 2014 1:59 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Hi there: the aperture was f16, and I didn't use an N D filter. The trees served as an effective filter. I was surprised at how brightly the sun star came out through the branches.
