Rather than hijacking that thread, I thought I'd post some images here that may shed some light on the lens.
Admittedly this is an extremely limited test, but it does show the lens at various apertures for the same subject.
Images shot in RAW on Nikon D7000 adjusted for exposure in LR3 - no other PP

I set up this example to show DOF, and deliberately staggered the images at the sides to illustrate this.
This is not a good test sample for showing corner sharpness - that will have to wait until I do some outdoors images.
I've been away and am just home with lots of jobs to finish, so when I can I will post another set of images.

I use 24mm mainly for outside shots near infinity, I am interested how corners look like as well. |

My beautiful country seems less so when one has the 'flu - and I have very low levels of creativity at the moment - so the following images are a poor choice. Nevertheless here we go.
Camera was set on a tripod, and the focus point was 3 metres.
Clearly, from the cropped images it is evident that focus clarity increases with smaller aperture - check the graffiti.
The DOF scale shows that once past f8, infinity is supposedly in focus. I found the reproduction of the top right of the images @ 100% crop to be mediocre - see image at the end.
See what you think of these.
