+1

Lens is amazingly sharp and contrasty. The 7,5mm does only cover 2x crop sensors, correct?

Yes, but more or less the same one is released for APS-C mirrorless (Sony / Samsung) as Samyang 8mm f/2.8 fisheye.

I may have to swap it with my Samyang 8mm F3.5 for Sony Alpha Smile

Great pictures, Nordentro. You got yourself a brilliant lens: It is the best fisheye lens I have tested so far.

Cheers!

Fisheyes are all crazy lenses, it's difficult to come up with a good idea how to use them. I really like the last shot. Smile

The Samyang 8mm for SLRs is f/3.5, not f/2.8. Their 14mm is f/2.8.

This 7.5mm is a different optical formula (9/7 vs 10/7). I have both the SLR version and the MFT one and the latter is sharper and has less CA. It also focuses down to 9cm (vs 30cm on the SLR version), which is what allows photos like the last one in Nordentro's great set.

I also tried this lens for the first time this weekend:

It is an amazing little lens.

Above link takes you to the specs-site of the 8mm f/2.8 for mirrorless non-SLR APS-C like Sony NEX and Samsung NX.

Even the Fujifilm X-mount is supported now I see.

That link does not load for me, but I found that lens version at B&H so I understand now what you were referring to.

I didn't notice that f/2.8 version before. Or maybe I saw it and I just thought it's the same as the MFT version because they are styled the same way. But note that this f/2.8 version is still different from the MFT version: it is a 10/8 formula vs 9/7 and it focuses down to 30cm vs 10cm.

So it looks like Samyang has 3 optical formulas for fisheyes: DSLR (10/7), APS-C MILC (10/8 ), and MFT (9/7). The MFT version is the only one with a 10cm close focusing distance. The APS-C MILC versions have the fastest aperture.

Especially the NYC scapes are awesome!
I love the Samyang fisheyes!

In the meanwhile I also got the 8/2.8 for E-Mount
It's a little tad better wide open than 8mm SLR lens but difference stopped down to usual working aperture (F8 ) difference in IQ is really neglitable on 1.5x crop. The 8mm has slightly more harmonic distortion (makes composition a tad easier) so for pics like
http://www.flickr.com/photos/54671350@N02/7099638379/in/set-72157626602263964 and http://www.flickr.com/photos/54671350@N02/6472017987/in/set-72157626602263964 where you don't see the "fish" the old one is imho slightly superior
If you already have the 8/3.5 SLR imho there's no reason to upgrade to 8/2.8 except you don't care much about distortion but care about wide open performance (low light) and size (it's very small).

I will sell my one as I don't have an umodified crop camera anymore but still have the lens - if anyone is interest send an PM - I will make an fair offer (a little less than used on Ebay)

Samples of the 8/2.8 on NEX-C3:
