I got a roll back today that I ran thru one of my Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash cams, this
is the first time with a flipped lens:

film expired May 2006

I like the result, a nice concentration of color, and then that Lensbaby look

Thanks, Jussi, among my unfavorite things are fisheye lenses and lensbaby. Laughing It's OK, I guess, another one, sort
of a selfie:

Those are great results. What was the technique you used? Flipping the lens? Is that like reversing a lens for macro work?

David, thanks, yes, it's a simple meniscus lens that you flip. Here's an how-to:

About a 5 minute job, or less.

A plug for sending 120 color negative film thru Walmart, it is still just 84 cents and yup, got
the 620 spool back as requested.

Should add, safe zone for focusing is anywhere between 2 to 5 feet, as opposed to unflipped 6 feet and
beyond.

Looks like photoshop motion blur, but better.

Fantastic!, I love the effect Wink

Jes.

Paul, Orio, and Jes, thanks for your comments.

Well, the effect is growing on me...a little bit. Wink

Wild ones, I`d say.
I like your portrait in the last one Bill.

Well they are squeaky clean shots...competition for the digital guys Wink

I like them! Might be scary but I'd like to see this done with people.

I have two Brownies gathering dust. I should try this.

Sorin, Excal, and Mark, thanks for your comments!

Mark, I was thinking about trying people next time, myself! Laughing

David, thanks for your comments! Well, I need to pin down a few people with duct tape and see how it goes (shutter speed
is around 1/40sec, don't want them to move Smile ). I have the sinking feeling they will be 'slightly less' magnificent than your
Rolleiflex/Planar pictures, but maybe they will partially make up for it in atmosphere/mood. Laughing

Thanks again.

PostPosted: Wed Aug 08, 2012 9:27 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Well, it will be something... different, but still magnificent i'm sure!
1/40 is not so long, you should give it a try without duct tape. Laughing

Still trying to germinate here Bill! Smile

The car shots look great - to me the blur is very effective on objects that you can imagine are moving, but the effect
doesn't work so well with the static seat and trees to my eyes.

Love the colours, even though it's old film.

David and Peter, thanks, gents, will try to get some people in the frame,
next time. Maybe I can find some interesting motorcycles, too...hummm.

Peter, agree, the last is not such a successful attempt as the car pix. I took
some flower shots that were way OOF, need to find the exact focusing distance
when shooting with the flipped lens and No 13 filter attached.

Much too late I discovered this thread!
This is a spectacular effect and perfect photographs.

I am sure you will have a lot more fun with this cam/lens Wink ...

Cheers
Tobias

Tobias, thanks, it is a very simple camera, but gives some fun
results! Smile They don't go for much on ebay, just a little over postage. Wink

I like the effect as well but the film makes it work...have you thought of using some flowers instead of duct taping people...... you know, you could get into trouble doing that... Laughing

Moira, I did try flowers, but they were OOF, will try again.

I hope to nail down the right distance for focusing both with flipped lens
and No. 13 filter attached. Here's one from a flickr member that got much
closer to good focus:

flipped lens+No 13 filter
