Hi,
As I went out of my home, I looked at the lavender and noticed what we call in french a "Moro Sphinx", in english a Hummingbird Hawk-moth.
Its latin name is Macroglossum stellatarum.

I had the Tamron SP 500 f8 mirror lens mounted on the 5D² to take some photographies about birds. I didn't... Smile

It was very fast, always in movement and never paused.
I had to increase isos to have decent aperture speed.

Thank you very much Embarassed

Just outside, they are 2 now ! Smile
But weather is grey and light is too poor for having good results.
First time I see a couple (after all, is it ?) Laughing

Admiring focusing skills you have to capture such a fast critter with a long lens. Very nice series. Wink

Thank you very much.

Shauttra, I was in a sitting position, the 2 elbows resting on the knees, my 3rd eye mirroring her as she was smelling lavender... Laughing

Else, I won't say it was macro as I was maybe 3 meters from her. Wink

Awesome shots Olivier!
That's the biggest moth I've ever seen.

Those are absolutely great shots!

Great shots. Some of the extreme bokeh shots I am not too keen on. This is personal taste of course.

Nice. Definitely not easy to focus something moving so fast.

I love bokeh donut, I love animal shot, I love your shots Olivier

Sensational images! You really nailed the moth with a difficult lens to use
in that way. Congratulations on your captures!

Loke, thank you.
That's right. It's moving fast and difficult to forecast his next move.
I see that your MF collection grows ! Smile

IAZA, thanks for all that love. Smile

Laurence, thanks a lot for your enthousiastic comments. Very Happy
Being at 3 meters distance and lateral to the lavender bush helped me by having slight adjustments to do with the focusing ring.
The large and clear viewfinder of the 5D² and the AF confirm helped also.

wow fantastic photographs, i especially like nr. 3, 6, and 7 because the lavender looks like it's really large and the moth looks like it's a small helicopter trying to land on them. but most of all, i think you've made great use of the characteristic bokeh.
