What type of cleaning are you after? Just a good external cleaning, or a full internal cleaning?

The Helios 44 is so simple even I can do it. Not sure about the other models.

For cameras I use this guy http://www.camerarepairs-r-us.co.uk/

If you send it off, it will cost more than the lens is worth. Just buy another.

These two links are probably the best instructions for repairing the Helios.

Whatever some commercial place would charge is almost certainly more than a Helios can be bought for, the local junk shop close to here has had a Zenit with a Helios 44M and a Hanimex ( I think ? )135mm lens, in a camera bag for sale at £25 for about 2 years now. When he drops the price to something sensible I might buy it.
The camera looks faulty, but the lenses are in excellent condition.

The other place to go if you're in the Midlands is the Wolverhampton Camera Fair, the next one is on April 10th.

There's always plenty of Helios lenses there, from about £10 up according to condition.

I've got two 44M and two 44-2 Helios, and I haven't paid over £5 for any of them, and I've got a collection of old Zenit camera's that I don't want. Wink

Seriously, I wouldn't spend good money on a commercial repair of a Helios. Buy another good one because they are a terrific lens, and practice lens repair skills on the one you already have.

An excellent repairer I can heartily recommend is Eddie Houston, contact ehouston@talk21 for details. He fixed a Vivitar 28 f2 for me which wasnt working for not much more than 30 quid

I've heard good things about Eddie Houston as well. But I had no contact details.

What do you use for cleaning? Water, moist or dry paper, acetone, mild detergent, alcohol, spit, moonshine, or good ol brass monkey? Thanks! I would like to know what rocks for DIY.

for the outside body of the lens I use wet wipes, ordinary hand cleaning wet wipes.

For the glass I found that the cheap household store locally were selling Zeiss pre moistened ( Isopropyl alcohol ) lens wipes, in the individual foil packs, in boxes of 90 for £2-00, so I bought ten boxes at that price.
