I have a possibly very n00b question...

I have currently 2 FEDs and one Kiev body that I'm regularly using but I'm only using film on a regular basis since recently.
If I want to do long exposures, is it workable to select B and press the shutter for x counts with my finger (working with a tripod) or will this inevitably cause camera shake?
Are there any special precautions I have to take if using B on FSU cameras (except for cocking before selecting the speed)?

It's not a problem - put camera on tripod, screw your cable release into the shutter release, press gently and count or use a timer ! But you will need the cable release or you risk making the camera shake/vibrate/move Very Happy

If you don't have the cable release, I'm sure you can buy them on eBay quite cheaply.

I use: Pentax K10D Super and Tamron 90mm f2.5 and 135mm f2.5 lenses: Leica M2 and M8 + 21/35/50/90/135 lenses. For old times' sake I keep a Vito B and a Retina IIc. And for medium format I have a Bencini Comet S and a Kodak Brownie 127.

Does a "universal" cable release do? Something like Click here to see on Ebay?

Yes, the threads are standard.
