On 18 November, I made another visit to the former Packard Automobile Company's
main assembly plant, located in Detroit, Michigan, USA. I finally processed the pictures a few days ago,
which is highly unusual for me, as I tend to review and process as soon as I am near my computer.
Interestingly, there's some Texan who thinks the place is suitable for rehab
for conversion to an electric car assembly plant, though I really
don't think he fully apprecates the condition of the crumbling
heap which has been vacant for the past 53 years.
I simply can't imagine it would be more cost-effective to rehab
the place instead of knocking her down to rebuild from scratch.
Here's an overview of the site, illustrating the full 20 city blocks
it covers. Surprisingly, there's some sort of active operation right
in the middle of the complex's southern part. The sounds emanating
from that facility suggest a machine shop or similar.
The very northern end also appears to be occupied, as evidenced by
a modern & maintained roof, along with motion sensors
to catch activity upon said roof.

6 Adjacent to the site lies Trinity Cemetery. Seems somehow appropriate.

Ever done a shot looking along the ground in one of these places(I am thinking to capture the carnage on the ground)....would it even be safe to go near the ground? _________________ Moira, Moderator

No bigger than yours, most likely, but they've had many years to deposit their guano.

Not really. Various sharp debris and scummy, moldy ickiness is a very solid deterrent to getting down on the floors & ground at such sites. _________________ Craig

Hi,
I can remember very well at your first series of this place.
Maybe it is necessary to show wider shots to see the dimensions of the buildings etc, but generally I think the more detailed shots are better for this type of photography.
Last week was an interesting documentation on a German Tv channel - what will be happen with the buildings, the cars, the streets, our houses etc if the human will be died out sometime. There were several periods of time, after one day, a week, a month, a year, 10, 20, 50, 100 years and so on.
When I viewed this film I thought at your pics that these buildings would be good places for the scenery too.
However it seems that a lot of human "pigs" added their crap at this place too.
In total interesting serie and for me again unbelievable that such a situation will be accepted more than 50 years.
