Hi
I've a problem with a Tamron 70-210 19AH. It weighs just under a kilo & doesn't have it's own tripod mount & can't see how you could fit one either. I'm having trouble getting it still on the tripod, even with the mirror up delay. It's worse if I have to use a 2x teleconverter. (sometimes I just have to use one). I have a Velbon CX560.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

I am not familiar with that tripod, is it possible that it is a 'lightweight' model?
May also be some universal style clamp-on type tripod mounts. _________________ Michael Hill

It ceratinly wasn't one of your more expensive tripods Michael. (Approx $US110) but the tripod handles heavier units but more balanced. The mass here is supended from the camera but not balanced. I think the solution is to not fully extend it, which means I'll have to crouch; Oh! well. _________________ Pentax K10D + Kit lens. Maybe you need to use the idea that Andy (F16SUNSHINE) passed on to me in my thread on a question of technique
http://forum.mflenses.com/a-question-of-technique-t7175.html
The jist of it was to use additional weighting at the base of the tripod via drawstring bags.
I use that same lens on a very regular basis - Minolta Mount (Minolta XG70) usually with the auto winder on it and sometime with a tele-extender with no issues.
The tripod I use is an older Velbon Victory - which isn't exactly a heavy weight - though quite stable.
The only other thing that I can think of (although it may be a stretch) is your weight centred (the camera) and does it have any weight to it?

Here's what I'm doing - the Tamron tripod mount is rare, but the cloned Canon EF 70-200 tripod mount is commonly available on ebay for a few bucks. The Tamron barrel dia is 64mm, while the Canon is 66mm. Just a matter of making it secure. _________________ Dave

Tamron made a tripod sleeve that fits most if not all their med and long Adaptall lenses. One occasionally comes up on eBay.
Unfortunately they sell for fairly good money.
The simple reason for this is because you only need one tripod sleeve for any number of Tamron Adaptall lenses you own so not as many sleeves as lenses were ever sold and Tamron owners never sell their tripod sleeve unless they are giving up all their Tamron lenses.
I would never sell mine, even for real silly money.
My suggestion is you make a simple tripod cradle to support your lens on a monopod or tripod. Should be good for speeds down to 1/30 sec and lower if your carefull. _________________ Pentax K10D & K100D. Many Tamron Adaptall SP lenses, Fujinon f4.5 400mm. Thank you for all thst assistance. I'll see what the Tamron cradle looks like & maybe get the Canon to adapt or even fashion my own.

I use this rail most for macro work but it is also handy to Balance heavy lenses on the tripod.

Is that rail part of a bellows? |
Yes it was the old Russian bellows. I bought them for £5 and did a bit of a chop. A proper focus rail costs a lot more and I doubt they are any better. _________________ Pentax K10D & K100D.
