There seem to be very little info on the Topcor RE Auto 28/2.8.
Can anyone compare them (through experience) with the 25/3.5 and 35/2.8
Which of the three is the best lens ? Would you trade your 25mm or 35mm for the 28mm ?

It is a later type, not really original TOPCOR quality, so I prefer the 2.8/35mm over it.

Thx Klaus; what do you mean with 'not really topcor quality' ? Where does it lack ?

The RE, Auto-Topcor 2,8/28 is part of the Topcon RE Series
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topcon_RE_Super
It was one of the last lens designed and introduced before the Company
stoped producing the RE series and became something else....

Not to be confused with the RE TOPCOR 2,8/28 (like i once did !)
http://forum.mflenses.com/re-topcor-2-8-28-t54314,highlight,%2Btopcor+%2B28.html
wich was made by CIMKO.... and although a well made lens, a completely different animal opticaly
and not in the same league as the RE Series lenses....

I'd expect more out of the 28/2.8 than the much older 25/3.5. I've measured the 28/2.8 at around 55 line pairs/mm wide open in the center. (No promise that my measurements are "accurate".)

I have trusted Mr. Shriver opinions and knowledge on everything related to the TOPCON RE Series
and he has been a big help to me since, as you say, not much information is readilly available on these lenses.

Member "casualcollector" is also very knowlegable on things related to the Topcor RE series....

25mm, 28mm and 35mm are different things.... and i can't say wich one is best....
Like Mr. Shriver, i'll say that the 28mm was introduced at the end of the series and therefore
should contain better science, knowledge and experience than the earlier designed 25mm...
It's also, imho, more practical to use....

I own all 3.......The 35mm is my "go to lens" but that's just 'cause i prefer the focal lenght...
And i would not trade any of them !
In my little league, greater lenses become much to expensive.... Rolling Eyes

Having serviced a bunch of them, i can attest on their being very well built
and mechanicaly sound and i beleive they can still be used with great results,
even against today's modern entry level mountain of glass lenses.

I suggest you get those you can and try them for yourself....
you can keep those that suit what you do and sell the others with no money loss...

Thx lightshow. Your opinion is as valueable as all others.
Contradictory answers here:) interesting. Hmmm. I'll think let the 28 slip away. I still have the Yashica ML 28mm(poor man's) distagon.

Are you certain you're not focusing past infinity?

I think I was having some issues with my camera or adapter or me, that I was getting poor results, I now get results I would expect, I have edited my posts so as to not sour peoples opinions of this fine lens, and added a couple pics to the first post.
