Very nice. I have the earlier sunken mount version and love it.

Good images.

Average objects. Don't take the lens to the limits of the possibilities.

You can do it more in the extremes.

I've never shot fireworks with Topcor lenses, I wonder how good they will be...?
How is the CA from the macro? Is it as bad as other Topcor's?

Looks not very sharp.... Sad or am I wrong...?

Did you click on the image for the better view? Images stored on this site tend to not provide the best quality. I always display my images 1024 from my photo sharing site.

I do not experience a CA problem.

Klaus, I would appreciate hearing from you about your assessment of the lens, especially when compared to others you might have.

Klaus, me too, I have it and posted a few shots in an earlier thread about Topcors in general. I don`t have your talent or experience though so would appreciate an expert view.

I found it to be particularly enjoyable in shots of my kids so far, sharp with good skintones.

I do not experience a CA problem.

In strong back light CA can be strong with some Topcors I have, but LR4.4 cleans it up quite easily.

He's not the only one on a Topcor hunt, I have at least 5 more on my list to get, 20, 35/2.8, 58/3.5 macro, 85/1.8, 100/2.8, 135/2.5, 200... Ok 7. Embarassed

Be prepared to pay dearly for the 85/1.8. I'm not aware of a f/2.5, so you must have meant 135/3.5? There is an older 135/2 which I'd love to try out, but surely to be expensive. The most rare and elusive is the 300/2.8 (I can't imagine the cost).

So, you're the One...
Click here to see on Ebay
I was so totally outbid that I'm not even in the list.
I have absolutely no regrets at this price, and again I'm happy to see it in very good hands !

Tha 85mm certainly sounds interesting, but not for my kind of work. I'm quite happy with what I have now Wink

Now I'm convinced . I want one! What mount is it?

PostPosted: Mon Jul 08, 2013 1:29 am    Post subject: Rare? Reply with quote

I think that the 85/1.8 is clearly rarer than the 300/2.8. Now, finding a 300/2.8 that hasn't been converted to some other mount can be hard. There's probably less than 1000 of the 85/1.8 ever made, I'd say that there's closer to 2000 of the 300/2.8 made.

But prices of the two of them are pretty similar, close to $1000, but not quite there anymore.

The 135/2 fetches lower prices than either of these.

The 85/1.8 is surely the most useful of the three!
