I picked up this curious lens, more by interest than looking for a performance lens. Tokyo Koki Minetar 200mm F4.5
It has to be 45 years old at least!!! Has a Minolta mount (MC/MD manual focus)
It was when I tried it, that I was surprised!!!
I took a few shots in the toughest conditions, wide open, back lit into the sun. Here's what I got:
Crop of same. Notice the slight purple fringing, but it's only slight.
Contrast is down a bit on this one, but it is heavily back lit:
Crop of same:
Does anyone know anything about this lens?? I couldn't find much on the internet!! |

Tokyo Koki = Tokina
Minetar may have been another trade name used by Tokyo Koki for their own products. The more famous trade name, that became the name of the company, was of course Tokina.
This looks somewhat like the 200/4.5 Tokina preset that was sold through dozens of distributors under dozens of names in the 1960's. A picture of the whole barrel may tell the story.
It is also probably a T-mount, though thats not certain. These old Tokina presets were also made in fixed mounts. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Yes, thats the Tokina all right.
You will find that lens under lots of brand names. I have one in Caspeco brand for instance. Also commonly found in the US as Accura, Lentar and Vemar, among many others. Only rarely will you find one like yours that is labelled by the actual maker. You have a bit of a collectors item.
Interestingly, you will even find this as a Yashinon-R (Yashica), as Yashica bought these to supply them as accessories for their first SLR's.
I concur about the quality, its a very sharp lens. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Can anyone identify the lens mount for this copy of 135mm Minetar? I have been looking around and still no certainty on the mount. It is to wide for M42 screw mount and a T-Mount adapter. I am at a lost to if there really is a koki mount out there to EOS.
Anyone seen this type of lens mount before?

Oh, thank you for the link. I was always a lurker on these forums but finally registered once this lens mount stunned me into frustration. Now, thanks to this forum I have an unhealthy appetite for weird and rare lenses now. |
