Yesterday evening, I tried to make some portraits of this natural beauty that lives in our toilet. It's a common house spider, Tegenaria atrica.

EDIT: On the Dutch Pentax forum, some members were complaining about dirty spots on both sides of the spider. So here is an improved one...

If this was a try Shocked I can't wait to see the results when you really place an effort on it!

Seriously, great macro of an arachnid - wow. Would you care to share some of the technique involved?

Thank you both!

No, of course it's no problem at all to share the technique, it's not that special at all. The point is: the tiles in our toilet are about white. With brown dots, but white overall. And on my camera I use a home-made diffuser, just like this one:

.

The one in the picture is not mine. It's made of cardboard, coated with aluminium foil on the inside to reflect the on board flash. At the end of the diffuser, that has to be just a tad longer than the lens, I taped some diffusing material.

The effect is some well lit macro with very much detail. And in this case - because of the white tiles - an almost white background, which can be improved in LightRoom or any other PP program.

Thanks again!
There is a Polish guy, to be found under the name grzehoofr on the internet. He makes I.N.C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E macros with this kind of macro diffuser. Google him, it's worth it!

The body is about a cm, I guess. So with the legs stretched this one is about 5 cm?

I take that you're using the built-in flash, right?
Tomorrow I'll make meself a difuser like that one.
Very practical idea.
