Just imagine, you want to bring 4 lenses (wide angle, normal, portrait and tele) but you have only very limited space, say a coat pocket. What yould you choose?

Here are mine:

Vivitar Auto Wide-Angle 2.8/28 (Komine)
185 g. / 52.3 mm high / 63.9 mm dia.

Industar-50-2 3.5/50
80 g. / 36 mm high / 49.8 mm dia.

Hanimex 4/100
195 g. / 94.1 mm high / 46.9 mm dia (!)
which is even smaller than the Industar-50-2!

Weltblick 3.5/135
280 g. / 96.5 mm high / 52.9 mm dia.
Diameter just 3mm bigger than the Industar-50-2!

Together a mere 740 g. All sizes including front and rear cap.

My smallests in the suggested focal lenghts are:

- Tamron 2.5/28
- Industar-50-2 ( but mine has a damaged glass Sad )
- Rollei Sonnar 2.8/85
- Jupiter-37anything

I could fit the four of them in just one pocket. Laughing

You have a good Industar lens just currently in my box Smile

Nic e thread.. thanks Carl for starting..

Mine will be:

JML optics 24mm f2.8
Industar-50-2 3.5/50 (or even Oly Zuiko 50mm f2.8 is also very tiny)
Takumar 135mm f3.5 PRESET
Takumar 200mm f5.6 PRESET

But I will try to take only 3...

JML optics 24mm f2.8
Oly Zuiko 50mm f2.8
Takumar 135mm f3.5 PRESET

(last 2 are top notch optical machines.. and the first one is just for snapshots...)

Vivitar 28mm f2
Helios 44 58mm f2
Jupiter 85mm f2
Nikkor 105mm f2.5

MIne would be:

Kiron 28/2
Nikkor 45/2.8
Nikkor 135/2.8

or I might just put the Kiron 28-85 on (I am still amazed at how good it is).

OK, that's kind of small, but not really small, is it?
I mean, I know these lenses, they are about twice as large as the ones I listed. This thread is not primarily about optical performance, it is about getting as tiny as possible. Wink
Of course, the images produced with your lenses would blow away those made with my list (perhaps apart from the Viv 2.8/28 which is a really good lens).

The Nikkor 2.8/45 is a perfect "small" lens, but the others? Excellent quality, but would you call them "small"? Cool

The Kiron 28-85 is a great alternative to these four primes. I also was thinking about my Sigma Theta 28-85.

Probably I'd take the Cosinon 28mm, the Industar 50, and the Tamron 75-210... (The Jupiter-9 it too big, I'm afraid).
Best regards,
Jes.

Yes, but I haven't got as many to choose from as you Smile Ok, I'll leave the Jupiter at home. Is that ok now? Smile

Very Happy I'm sorry, if I have sounded too smart-alec. That was not my intention. I just wanted to stress why I chose these lenses - not because I like them most, but because they are really small. Wink

ElanR's kit is even bigger than mine!!! Truth is, if I was travelling light, I'd be packing an Olympus C-5050, a Ricoh 500G (the old film one), and whichever small, manually adjustable flash that was nearest (I have one stuck in the post at the moment - more news on that later). I'm waiting for my 105mm to be returned by a good friend. Then, I'll get my kitchen weighing scales out and do this game properly Wink

@ Lucis Pictor

No they are not small, but I really do not have small except for the 45/2.8 and the teeny Industar.

Hey, the 5050 and the little Ricoh are pretty nice cams!

Fair enough, you could hide these lenses in a winter coat and that's what it's all about. Wink

My dad, who - after about 20 years of Polaroid, APS and digital cams - started to shoot on "real" film again (a little influenced by me and my endless sermons about how nice manual lenses are Wink) has got this set:

Raynox Rubinar 2.8/28
Soligor 2.8/35
Pentacon 1.8/50
Carl Zeiss Jena 4/135
Pentacon 4/200
Enna Enalyt 4.5/240
Maginon G HQC 4-5.6/70-210

The Pentacon 4/200 and the Enalyt are really too big for this game.
But with the Raynox Rubinar 2.8/28, the Pentacon 1.8/50 and the Maginon G HQC 70-210 (which is surprisingly small for a tele zoom lens and still good) he could join in. (I just phoned him and talked to him about it - so once again this topic Wink)
