Anyone know what that lens might be?

That is really crappy bokeh and dog is out of focus Laughing

Lens is Vivitar 90/2.8.

hey,

well I just bought a Helios-40 1.5 85mm.

aaaaahhhh! Smile

Congrats! Great lens by all accounts, I can't afford one (not yet anyway)

I wanted this lens before, but was worried about buying from outside of Uk. I just paid about 140£ for it including p+p.

That is probably too much, is it?

I think it's about the going rate for one in good condition with caps, case and set of filters.

It will replace my Jupiter. Will probably sell the jupiter, unless I get the Helios and prefer the jupiter. Do not like having two same focal length lenses.

So I will have Flektagon 2.4, helios 1.5. Now I still need a 50mm... I will keep searching.

I will post a picture from my Flek in the gallery.

I think 35mm, 50mm and 85mm is the perfect 3. Smile

Ah, but the Jupiter and the Helios have different characteristics and both are fantastic for what they're good at.

For 50mm in M42 you really can't beat a CZJ Pancolar MC 1.8/50, and if you want to take just my word, wait till Attila replies! Smile If 1.8 isn't fast enough for you a Super Tak 1.4/50 is very close. You also need a Flek 20 and a CZJ MC S 3.5/135 for the full set! Smile

Agreed in all. Yes they are very different. Jup-9 stopped down is much more "contemporary" for an "aggressive" style, I think it would be perfect for today's fashion magazine shots.
Helios-40 is a more "classical" type of lens, with a twist at wide open where it has a very peculiar OOF pattern that derives, I think, from the strange origin of the lens.

It needs to be sharp, it has to produce photos that look 3d, and most importantly it has to produce that bokeh that some people like and most people hate. You know the one, really swirly with really bright edges.

On a DSLR, I would recommend the famous Helios-40 85/1.5 lens. It is a very sharp lens (although pretty difficult to focus wide open) and has a very distinctive and pleasant bokeh -- but not really of the "swirly" type. You can find lots of great pictures taken with this lens in this famous thread on the Camera.ru forum.

One of the most interesting bokeh I know of in small format photography is delivered by the Canon 50/0.95 "Dream Lens." Here are some pictures I took with this lens, which is really fast but not particularly sharp wide open:

This one was taken with the same lens, but not by me:

Abbazz

Your talent improved the lens performer. The bokeh of summilux
M 75 is the greatest for me.

More pics please.

Thanks but I don't think there is much talent in these shots Embarassed. I just wanted to demonstrate the wild bokeh of this lens when used wide open with a near subject.

I have shot many rolls with the Canon 50/0.95 lens on my Bessa R3M, but I lack time to scan them Crying or Very sad.

Cheers!

That Canon 0.95 really has a character of it's own (maybe not to everyone's liking, but this is a sign of personality as only boring lenses could please everyone) and Abbazz talent makes it shine.

Thanks Orio, I really value your appreciation.

Regarding this Canon lens' personality, I don't really like the highlights fringed by a bright ring, but I surely do like the painterly quality of out of focus backgrounds.

Cheers!
