This lens is fairly well known and well regarded. I happened to acquire this one a while ago as part of a job lot, stuck it in the cupboard and forgot about it. Decided to give it a try and it has surprised me, for an old zoom with such a long range, it is really good, nice and sharp, contrast isn't bad at all, flare and ghosting isn't a problem, colours are nice; it's nothing special but it's more than adequate for casual use and will be the lens I turn to when I can only take one lens but need to cover a range of focal lengths.
These samples have been sharpened and had a slight tweak to the contrast:
#1
#2
#3
#4
#5
100% crop:
#6
#7
#8
#9
#10

Nice pictures indeed! Is this the oldfashioned heavy model with MFD 2m?
I have to dig out mine again! |

Cheers. Yes, this is the heavy one with the 'macro' mode. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Love #2, but I am a sucker for Tele shots of heavy equipment, makes it look like the toys I loved as a kid. I have a Tamton 28-200 and very recently picked up a Kiron 28-200. I haven't done much with either, interested in trying the Kiron. Thanks for sharing. _________________ ________________________________________________________

You're welcome. This one is very common as a Vivitar and very cheap, look for the 77 serial and the 5.3 max aperture at the 200mm end. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Mine is different
Serial 77700023, 28-200mm 3.5 -5.6; the MFD is 2,50m, no macro. Filter 72mm.
So mine is somewhat older, I think. |

Mine is the same as Ian's.
At one time I owned three of these lenses and tested them against each other.
They were:
Vivitar (Cosina - Serial 09XXXXXX) 28-210 f 3.5-5.6, Vivitar (Kobori Serial 77XXXXXX) 28-200 f3.5-5.3, and Kiron 28-210 f3.8-5.6

The Kobori was the surprise and best overall.
It is the only one that I kept.
