No episode this week?

I hope nothing untoward has happened to any of the lads.

I should have put a post up here. Here's a link to the "announcement" on Facebook... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10156877366256995&set=gm.2172775086270701&type=3&theater&ifg=1

The short answer is that swapping my USB mic 10 minutes into the recording caused the software to only record one voice. I'm still trying to put this disaster behind me...

And there I was cursing because I hadn't had the chance to listen in till Friday.
I guess if it had to happen it's picked one of the better weeks from my point of view.

I can just about last till next week with a little Ade from the Sunny 16 backlog Smile

I'm now up to episode 107 of S16, but they keep on making new episodes so I wonder if I'll ever catch up!

To make it worse, Simon said he was interviewing on his tod. That's my favourite style of photography podcast, grr... Ben Smith (A small voice) and Ibarionex Perello (The candid frame) are two I try not to miss. I just listened to Perello interviewing Guy Webster. It was a chunk of pure Americana.

I was amazed at how quickly the time went, it was a good wide ranging chat I had with Cheyenne. We've postponed the second coming of Cheyenne for a couple weeks as time zones are playing havoc with getting more than two of us together at the same time. It was an option for doing another one on one, but I feel that the conversation will be stilted, so I plan to take a back seat when we get Cheyenne back next time.

Episode 37. Anil Mistry's Desert Island Lenses

Part two of the Anil Mistry experience, last time Anil told us about his last photo book and street shooting, but we ran out of time before we could talk about lenses. This time, we've sent him off to a desert island and we finally get to hear about some of his favourite lenses.

I enjoyed that episode. I like the 'desert island lenses' section. But did you have to start with an unashamed Nikon fanboy? Smile Lucky it was Mistry, as that guy could sell coal to Newcastle. I found myself nodding in agreement and have never set eyes on these lenses. I was also with him on the film/digital discussion. Sorry Simon.

And on the subject of soft focus portraits, Anil will no doubt know that he is in very good company. A great exponent of soft focus portraits was Julia Margaret Cameron, who, along with David Wynfield, virtually invented the style of shallow depth of focus for portraits that we see today so ubiquitously. So they knew a thing or two about portrait photography, and preferred soft, not sharp.

Cheers guys.

Another enjoyable episode that I, too enjoyed.
Always enjoy hearing Anil speak, and you get the best from him each time.
Thank you all.
Agree with Anil on the funky little Industar. I have the Industar 50 and like it a lot
Also I appreciate the reference links added after each show
Well done

Thank you both for your comments, even though Anil and Sciolist are wrong about accepting that Fuji film simulations are benign...

Anil is always great company and guaranteed to take a discussion into an interesting place.

Wait 'till they start providing on-board simulated ASA speed grain with each film sim! Then next stop is lens simulations Shocked The 5 year old Fuji I have already has some steps towards that built in I have noticed. Onboard Barrel, pincushion and colour shading.

It's relentless I tell you, relentless!

Maybe I can help. If the great unwashed were introduced to lens simulations, there would no doubt be an explosion in people wanting to try/own the real things, no? Time to nest away a few classics?

Have a better day, sir Very Happy

Pull your finger out Forster. You've not posted the latest show and I've already listened to it !

A link to Cheyenne's piece on Capa's 'D' Day landing shots would be great if you can manage it Smile. The idea that the 'bungled processing' was phony has blown my mind a bit Shocked. I'd love to see any references Cheyenne might have.

By popular request, here are the latest show notes...

I'll ask Cheyenne for a Capa link, and he get's mixed up with the name of the photographer regarding the Polaroid story, the correct name is Andre Kertesz.

Episode 38. Cheyenne Morrison 2.0

Having had his first appearance wrecked through recording failure, Cheyenne is back to talk Bresson, Zeiss, Schneider, DKL mount, Tomioka, Chinon, Asahi and more!

Hi Guys, sorry about the mix up between Koudelka and Andre Kertesz, it was after 11:30 when we started recording.

I should have posted the link about the Robert Capa D-Day negatives story, we talked about so many things I forgot.

That was an excellent read. Thanks. I have no idea how this all passed me by.

If I can return the favour, and if you've not read it, the solving of the mystery surrounding Roger Fenton's famous 1855 'Valley of the shadow of death' image is a good read. Played out in the pages of the New York Times, it reminds me very much of how the Capa story developed and concluded.

Cheers Like 1 .

I also watched Blunty and his Russian lenses. I remember there was a genuine sense of excitement from him. I've just had something similar after receiving my first collapsible lens. I've absolutely fallen in love with it. And now I want to try them all. There's always something new... umm, old to discover Smile

And I have to go find out what a 'zoomer' is. I missed the manufacturers name, but anything that looks like it should have been in Metropolis, is worth hunting down for a look-see.

There's a link in the notes above; Voigtlander Zoomar.
