Hi,

I recently stumbled across a K6 Tessar (in contrast to the Biometars you usually find) and was asking myself about the differences in construction,
if any.
Afaik, both (usually) consist of 4 lenses in 3 groups, so where's the clue?
Is is maybe the same as with "Car Zeiss Jena" and "aus Jena", where at
a point in time CZJ wasn't allowed to carry "Zeiss" in the name?
Maybe the same that they couldn't use "Tessar" anylonger and therefore invented the Biometar?

Cheers!

As far as I know, the Biometar is the successor of the mythical Biotar (the most popular lens in the Twenties and early Thirties).

I don't know which degree of relation they have with the Tessar.

Biometar is a double gauss with 5 elements in four groups (following the planar design), whereas tessar is a triplet with 4 elements.
