How would this be for a first dismantle and cleaning project? Never done it before?

And good luck, this lens is pretty awful 50% chance glass is damaged already by fungus.

Doesn't look that bad. I've had worse.

You probably only need to remove and clean the front two elements.

These usually screwed off as a unit.

Attila is right that a lens spanner may be needed to open it, but its very likely you don't. You can often also use two small screwdrivers to turn the retaining rings.

Its not likely to ever be a great lens, but you never know.
