Many 5Ds will not clear mirror at infinite with the SMT Takumar 1.4/50
I don't know about other Takumar lenses (I only own the 1.4/50)
As for adapters, the M42 to EOS adapters are, together with the Nikon to EOS, the safest adapters, practically all of them will work, I suggest to choose an adapter with the extra flange for pressing the aperture pin, this will make it possible to use M42 lenses that are Auto only. _________________ Orio, Administrator

Limitations at the 350D?
Hardly any I know of - just the missing AF.
I use a Tak 3.5/35 and it works well. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

Hello,
I own a Takumar M42 with "Offenblendenmessung" (I don't know the English word for that). I was not enable to mount this lens on my M42 to EOS adapter bekause there was a Nose on the mount.
But I have also to fix some things on this lens so that I opened it. On this way I used this Tool http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/thumb/1/10/Seitenschneider.JPG/800px-Seitenschneider.JPG to remove this nose.
Now my 55 f1,8 Takumar is one of my best lenses in my photo-bag!
Cheers

I'm not sure what you mean with "nose". If you refer to the little silver aperture pin, you can get an adapter that presses it constantly down.
But perhaps you talk about something else... _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

I have 6 Takumar lenses I use with the 400D. I've had no problems with them at all, except for one - the 1.4/50 Super-Takumar.
At infinity, the rear lens projects beyond the mount, inside the camera. This does not conflict with the mirror or anything else in the camera, however, the size of the aperture in two of my (cheaper) adapters is too small to allow this fairly large lens to pass right through and prevents focussing at infinity. I bought a better adapter with a larger aperture, which works fine.
So I would say if your friend gets the correct adapter, preferably AF-confirm as Carsten recommended, there will be no problems at all. |

This pictzure shows what I mean. I removed the arm over the backend-lens.
No it fits with my adapter.
