This lens arrived today and I just had to pop out in the rain and cluody sky to try it. Absolutely beautiful condition, mint and unused as far as I can tell. It doesn't have the Thorium element like my older Super-Tak and it will work with the open-aperture metering on the Spotmatic F. On the 400D the aperture-position lever jams in the opening of the AF-confirm adapter and stops the ring turning, so these are on a plain adapter. Straight from the camera, resized and converted to jpg only, using Canon's DPP Viewer. All at f5.6

Looks like it gives nice detail with a good bokeh.

Hallo Peter!
This lens was my first fix lens. So I find the way to quality. The aperture 1,4 is very good for portraits by low light, becouse the unsharpcircles makes a soft fog, but not to soft.
5,6 means perfect sharpness, one of the best lenses from pentax.
By f 2,0 you get this:

f 1,4 is not easy to handle, i am learning.

regards Peter

I forgot to explain:
My 50/1,4 is a AF, a new lens, but for 35mm film. The SMC Takumar must be the same quality.
I wish you a lot of fun with this lens an good pictures

regards Peter

Thanks Richard. The pics aren't brilliant, they weren't really meant to be, and resizing seems to have some of the resolution. I wanted to show how pleased I was with this lens - so many others seem more difficult to focus and fool the camera into wrong exposures. This is a lens I feel confident with.

Peter, this is M42 mount S-M-C (not SMC), in production 1971-1972. I hardly ever use a lens wide open, but if it's sharp-ish by f2 then it will be very useful in our normal dim light. I love the colours in your pic, I dearly wish I had a granddaughter to photograph! Smile

Thanks poilu, kind as ever! Wink

Congrats Peter, the lens is surely one of the top 50mm performers.

Thanks Orio. I'm planning to use this with the Spotmatic mostly. My older version has a problem with the auto pin - for some reason it doesn't close the aperture fully in auto mode. I had a look at it but I can't see the reason. In manual mode it's fine, so I am going to use it only in stop-down mode on the Canon.

The pic of the Honesty was for you to compare with the plant you wanted to know about recently. I think I got this one right, did you check the others?

Yes, we got that one. Smile See if you can identify any others:

I like the name Pope's Money - pretty descriptive of the seeds, and just about as valuable! Wink

A very good lens that works real well on my cropped DSLR. On my FF DSLR the extreme edges go softer as you focus out. Color and 3D rendering is real nice:
