I just bought a Starblitz 75-200, needing repair, for $20 specifically as a fun project lens. The aperture is frozen open, but I can't yet determine if that's oil or a missing spring. That I can likely fix. The other issue is more curious and I'm trying to understand it.

The focus rotates the normal amount, but does not move in and out accordingly. The mechanism moves in and out freely without being spun, and under gravity falls right back to the bottom.

There's a VERY faint rattle, like a few grains of sand inside it. In general, all elements are properly resistant and exhibit tight movement.

Any ideas on what I'm up against to fix it?

Worst case scenario is I have a lens that can operate at different focal lengths and focuses than intended, which ought to result in some interesting photography.

Huzzah! I took the lens apart tonight, dismantled the lens assembly, cleaned all the aperture blades of their oil, cleaned some dust off the inside lenses, and got the aperture working again when assembled. Now to figure out how to fix the free-sliding zoom function.

hey ,
could you show me you disassembled the rear half of your lens , or have you a link to do so? I think it may just be the same setup to my cimko 75-200 which im having trouble with .. parting the barrel to the lens just behind the aperture blades is where im trying to get to...
