Posted: Fri Jul 04, 2008 8:59 pm Post subject: Spring in lens cap? |
|
|
One of my contax G2 lens caps was losing the top, so I opened to fix it with glue, but the components fell apart. I was able to reconstruct it, except that now it does not have "tension" anymore (you know, when you press the cap from both sides to make it fit the lens).
So I am wondering if maybe these caps have a spring inside, that I may have lost.
Anyone knows anything about that? _________________ _

Many caps has spring inside or most of them (snap caps). _________________

The diameter is 46mm, and the type is the "G" type (don't know if you are familiar), it has a grey top that is glued over. _________________ _

Thanks Attila - I would like to try fixing the original cap if possible, because if tomorrow I need to sell the lens, lack of original cap means lower selling price (it is stupid, but I verified that a lot of times). _________________ _

Pity, because I was going to give you the cap off my Planar 1.4, but unfortunately it's 55mm dia. and black as you know, so no good.
Hope you get one though. _________________ "The badger winks twice before the cheese explodes!"

No problem Orio - my Planar is a definite keeper for me as although it's IQ is everything I expected and more, it does have very slight edge fungus (inside one of the cemented elements and uncleanable as a result) and a bad scratch on the trim ring, both of which would impact on it's resale value. _________________ "The badger winks twice before the cheese explodes!"

Bob this is the best time of year to kill that fungus with sunlight.
Orio I will keep my eyes open for a spare cap. They do come up on ebay regularly as well. Although usually too expensive. _________________ Current Kit

I had it sitting on the windowsill for a day Andy and that was when I found out about the other little "problem"....
Lens was warm but not overly so, when I picked it up however, I then found that the aperture wouldn't open or close - turned out that someone had managed to break the little arm off the actuator, had glued it back on, and the glue had gave way due to the heat.
I ended up having to strip the lens and get some heavy duty epoxy to refit the little arm.
I've got a small UV lamp though so I'll probably use that, rather than sunlight to finish the job. _________________ "The badger winks twice before the cheese explodes!"
