Hello!

A friend in Ukraine made this modification for projection lens RO-109-1A 50/1.2.
Original lens is just a lens block, like every projection lens.
He made a mount, a focus ring, integrated iris inside the lens, naturely with apperture ring.

Lens is more an effect lens than a real lens. It's an interesting lens to use for close up. Diaphragme add sharpness, controle of DoF and everything a diaph usualy do. It doesn't turn this lens into a real serious lens, but it still increase the quality of this lens, but doesn't remove its caracter.

Some photos of the lens, and some samples I snaped with Nex-3 (first gen, 12MP)

That's really cool. I dig the custom machined focus mechanism (I'm a mechanical engineer in optics and lasers, so that is right up my alley). Good shots too!

The blades looks like taken from Soviet lens, definetely not from new Chinese made.
Well adaptation and results

Thanks for your comments!

IAZA, yes, certainly from soviet lens, but I don't know which one. In fact, he uses different ones. I'll receive other exemplars for sale, they all have different diaphragmes.

Oh, no, Helios 103 has very different diaphragm shape.

Sorry to revive a old thread but I want to do the same thing to my copy of the same lens. Could you share what lens did he borrow the Iris (aperture blades) from?

Hi Andy,

I'm sorry, I have no idea. I just can tell you he used several irises, not only one type. Here is another RO-109-1a with another diaphragm (this one can totaly close the light)
