Hello,

Old news:
SONYs

http://www.fotomagazin.ro/stire.php?id=3702

I tried to translate it:

"The Sony Company published new photos of its two new digital cameras announced at PMA 2007.
Till this moment it is known that these new models will be controlled by a new processor Bionz and that it will have in camera sensor stabilisation.

Picture 1

The first model targets the intermmediate level users and a grip will be available too. It will be launched in 2007.

Picture 2

The second one seems to be made for professionists. There are no informations about the sensor's format or the launch date."

Hello,

Here are some news. I took them from here: http://www.reflex.it/
http://www.reflex.it/news.html
"...New Sony Alpha, in APS-C format sensor with 12MPx , burst ~8-10 fps , maximal ISO ~6400, shake reduction (SSS=super steady shot from Sony ?) It could be nammed Alpha 10. It will be lanuched in the first days of september..."

PS. Please, Orio, if I made some mistakes or misunderstanding please correct me. Thank you. Smile

Hey Cosmin, good translation! Smile

I'm a bit perplexed by the new Sony... 6400 ISO? The previous model already had horrible ISO 800 and really unuseable ISO 1600. They should have better improved that, I don't dare to think how the 6400 ISO will look like in the new camera. It seems to me like cheap promo strategy - they can't beat competition of Canon -Nikon-Pentax with quality of image, so what to do? Offer a ISO sensitivity that no digital camera has offered yet. But how useable? - this is the point.

I see other very interesting news there:

- new Zeiss lenses for Leica rangefinder, amogst them the Distagon 18mm - maybe a version of it for the reflex mount could be done soon?

- new Pentax K100D Super, updated with added sensor cleaning shaker - this looks like an interesting affordable camera.

- New film scanner by Epson, the V200 - seems interesting

- A digital reflex will be output by Leica in year 2008 - now that's a boom news!! Guys, if you have some money and want to buy a Leica-R lens, do it now, because next year I foresee the prices of R lenses to double when the digital reflex by Leica will be released.

1. About the sensor. May be the same sensor in the Nikon D2x (see 12Mpx) and a better in camera processor. Because the burstrate si pretty high -8-10 fps this could be a semi-professional sSLR.
2. Pentax K100D Super can handle the new Pentax SWM lenses with build in ultrasonicmechanism for fast and quiet focusing (it has inside the mount/mirror house two more contacts like K10D has): http://forum.mflenses.com/viewtopic.php?t=693&start=30
3. Leica has already a dSLR. It is made on a 4/3 Olympus/Panasonic mount : http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Leica/leica_digilux3.asp
Yes, it looks more like a Panasonic/Lumix rebranding ( http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicdmcl1/ ).

hmm.. I didn't know of this camera, I thought they made only the M8
It's not the first time that Leica rebrands something (the R4 is a rebranded Minolta)
But if the new camera has still the Olympus 4/3 mount, it's not interesting and will pass unnoticed like this camera. As they say in the note, it's the sales of the M8 that pushed Leica to have a positive income. And the reason is that it's compatible with all the M-bayonet lenses. If they understand the lesson, their next reflex will have the -R mount.

...or it will be a rebranded Olympus (the E-1 replcement) http://www.dpreview.com/news/0703/07030507olympusp1pictures.asp
Its just a supposition. Anyway Leica made only 3 lenses (I know 3 only) in 4/3 mount:
http://panasonic.co.jp/pavc/global/lumix/leica_d_lens/zoom_lens.html
http://www.4-3system.com/modules/lenses/lens.php?id=28
and
http://panasonic.co.jp/pavc/global/lumix/leica_d_lens/fixed_focal_length_lens.html (the normal classic lens on a 35mm camera Smile )

I don't know, I'm not convinced by these choices by Leitz.
They should feed Panasonic with some occasional lenses just like Zeiss does with Sony, to make some income. But they should focus on their traditional manual lenses technology and mount for their own production, like Zeiss does. Zeiss does produce only manual focus lenses for their own catalogue. They have stated that autofocus lenses need compromise in the quality of materials, and that they don't want to follow that road for their best lenses. So should do Leica. It is pointless for them to make competition to Olympus in the 4/3 format. Olympus will always beat them, because of the production costs. I don't believe in these new plastic autofocus zooms by Leica. They should make a digital R reflex, and release a new version of their most tried and true optical designs, just like Zeiss is doing right now, in full, solid metal.
I will never buy a Leica digital reflex, unless it's a -R mount one.
(not to mention that the cost of a digital reflex by Leica is probably nonsense compared to the quality and low price of a Canon reflex).

Orio, I agree with you on this one.

Unfortunately, the Leica Digital Module R is now out of production, due to bad sales. It was a nice contraption though and it's too bad Leica chose to scrap it instead of upgrading it.

Cheers,
