oh, I am very surprised that his 'findings' should be new and by his comment, quote: "Would be nice to know from Sony why those lenses cannot get the full 5 axis stabilization…"
I thought that it was very clear from the first Sony videos and press releases that what they call "Yaw and Pitch" stabilization was done by the image stabilization of native Sony lenses, and that 'only' X/Y and 'roll' stabilization was done by the sensor, at least this is how I understood it, but I have never looked into technicalities nor am I inclined to do so

You will get all the 5 axis if you use a Sony FE lens without OSS but only 3 axis for third party lens.

Someone at the SAR mentioned this is related to the missing distance encoding in adapted lens. But I am not sure if this is the correct answer.

I woudl wait till 2032, I'm sure the A7 price is much lower then and / or there might be a MUCH better Sony even!!

Smile

I am not usually vunerable to marketing to be sure....Bought my 5D classic when the price dropped below $800 (US$3200 new!) and just sold it for US$550...so it cost me US$250 to use for over 5 years...bought the Panasonic G5 with kit lens for US$299 right when it was discontinued....

If I snag the A7 for US$700-800, I could probably do the same thing, and buy the A7 III(!) in 2018.

February 2015....that's when I calculate the A7 depreciation getting to the US$800 mark....then the old Exakta lenses get to use full frame! Very exciting!

As far as 2032, my child will have completed university, and I anticipate less budget constraints then Smile

I got my new camera today Very Happy

The grip is much better for my hands and the IBIS works great. The Speedmaster and the A7 II makes a nice combo for shooting in low light with low ISO Wink The camera smells wierd and must have been sprayed with something? I can`t remember this smell from the A7R when it was new. Coming back soon with pictures and more updates...

Can't wait to hear your opinion about it Smile
I have several pentax dslr and their ibis is very good.
Pentax's focal setting is 800mm, and I had used to shot 500/8 with tc2x, handheld.

From this photo, I can see there is a yellow/violet patten inside the Speedmaster. It might be a sign that this lens will have color shift (see http://forum.mflenses.com/color-changeshift-on-fast-lenses-t68815,highlight,%2Bcolor.html) . Could you help me to check if the lens have a visible color shift when you change the aperture?

I see. Thank you, Lars.

With your new combo, you can take low light photos handheld without using a high ISO. I will buy a A7II next year after I thin out my collection of lenses. Smile

That was my idea but I can resist everything but temptation,so I pick up my A711 on Monday and really must get down to selling some of my far too many lenses etc.

I read that the IBIS will stay deactivated after a Sony OSS lens had been mounted, that it won't work with an adapted lens then and there is no way to activate it, resp. the only way to activate it again is by mounting a non OSS Sony lens first:

A firmware update should be able solve this issue. Hope Sony will fix this problem ASAP.

Sure do! let's hope Sony will make the A7II's IBIS work with adapted lenses as well as it possibly can. ( freaked by the thought that obstacles could be there by intent )

for now at least a workaround had been discovered, quote: "If you unmount (take off) an OSS lens without turning the camera off (or at least turn it off after you have removed the lens) then when you attach a third party (dumb) adaptor ‘steady shot’ (IBIS) continues to work normally"
