For comparison here are some wide open shots from the CV 50/1.1:

For event work I would take the CV. But the Sonnetar can ride in my bag Smile

If I could keep only 1? Sonnetar. Pedigree, character and portability would trump the predictable delivery of the heavy CV...if I had to choose.

I like how that CV 1.1 renders - more clinical, more microcontrast giving more 3D pop, but less smooth oof areas.

I guess that the Sonnetar is a great portrait tool, very much similar to the original Noctilux Wink

Yes, for candid shooting with human subjects, where periphery issues are moot, looks to be worth it's fare and then some. Smile Paints the OOF pretty nice to my eye.

The last photo illustrates the size very well Smile
This lens is really tiny to be f1.1. Thank you.

This is pretty easy to find for around 750USD and the A7, all flavors, likes it pretty much Smile

But the one I like even more is the incomparable 35/1.2: (fastest 35 ever made)

This is a terrific lens on the M9 (as shown) because it has a bit of DOF wide open, and as you can see it's totally usable WO. That is the V1 which was discontinued when that layout of asph glass became too expensive, so V2 altered it a bit. I like the first version Smile

My frontline low light kit may become: CV35/1.2, Sonnetar, and 75Lux Smile

And lets give an ode to Bertele's vision in 1929, here an uncoated 1937 Zeiss Jena 50/1.5 wide open on the A7:

And granddad, with which Bertele invented low light candid photography:

Wow!!! Look at this form factor with high speed medium format!!
