This pic is nothing special and not worth of the gallery, but I post it because for the first time perhaps I am happy with the reds as given by my 5D.

Usually reds suck big time but this time, they turned out OK I think - and I tend to give merit to the Sonnar 85's super microcontrast - as many other lenses have failed before it.

No saturation - colours as out of lens.

Note: it lost something in the JPG conversion. In the TIF the reds were more readable.

You know, I've got a Leica R 90/2.8 and a Contax Zeiss 100/2.0 that see more use than my sonnar 85/2.8 but images like these and others I have gotten have made it impossible for me to consider getting rid of the lens.

Beautiful photos from both of you guys.

(how did you get that close to the mountain goat - I have never been able to manage it)

Yes, great shots from both!

James, love that mountain/lake scene, just beautiful!

Two nice shots!

Getting decent digital reds always seems to be a problem.

I love very much your first two images, James. They're perfect in every way.
In the third and fourth instead I see something strange, especially in third, I don't know if it could be too much sharpness or an excess of shadows rescue. Aside from that you managed to get a gorgeous portrait of that mountain goat. It is the first time that I see one and it's very beautiful animal. I don't think we have that species in Europe - goats look different here. This one seems to be a big exemplar!

Very good eyes Orio! The third shot originally is a mess. There was very strong light coming from the right and deep darkness in the background and left side of the image. This was one of my first attempts using the shadow/highlight tool and I got marginal results. I had also set my Canon 5D to the extended range and then used ISO 50. That is a bad thing to do ( I found out) for high contrast shots.

I have issues with the mountain goat shots myself. They appeal to me for the 3D effect of the horns yet the rest of the image looks "strange" in smaller size. I'm not sure why. I printed a slightly differently processed image from this same shot at 11" x 14" and it came out great. But on the monitor it too looks strange.
