This is a rather common lens, being apparently a Cosina design that has been sold under numerous brand names, including Vivitar, and even various nominal focal lengths, from 19-21mm. There appear to be several versions as well, varying in aperture range and filter size.

I aquired mine in Exakta mount long ago, and only recently obtained an M42 T4 on another Soligor. I was initially put off by some bad flaring I saw on my first try with this lens on the DSLR.

I recently gave it a more thorough workout, and I am feeling better about it, though it certainly does flare more than I would like. It seems to be manageable though, with some care.

It only stops down to f/16 (some of the variants apparents go down to f/22), which is probably just as well as it will just get less sharp beyond that point, and I'm not satisfied with its sharpness as is. It takes 72mm filters. It focuses down to about 10". I have heard of Vivitar versions that appear cheaply made (plastic), but this isn't one of them, it is solid, heavy metal all over, pure early-1970's Soligor. All in all, this one seems like a rather early version of the base design.

I can certainly imagine that there are better lenses than this, but it does have the advantage of being the most affordable option at this focal length, and this and its brothers and close cousins are pretty much the only cheap, true wide angles for a crop-sensor DSLR.

Exactly. Although you sometimes can find quite affordable 17mm lenses.

Very nice shots of a great city!!
