Lenses:

The Canon can focus a little bit closer than Tamron without macro mode but I think it isn't the best always when trying to focus near 1.2m... I have hear some softness with 70-200 4L IS version when focusing very close.
But as for macro use... Canon has nothing to say against the Tamron

Macro performance with the SP 60-300 is amazing however I have my doubts that it could be recommended as a general macro lens because its macro setting is at 60mm and the lens is a bit of a handful even on a good tripod when doing macro. This of course this doesn’t take away any of its great virtues as a very versatile lens. It is IMO a great package offering great performance throughout its 60-300mm range with the added bonus of macro. _________________ Pentax K10D & K100D. An interesting comparison. Thanks.
I guess the Canon lens is a little ahead wide open and shows a creamier bokeh but when stopped down one step they are neck and neck (or perhaps "nip and tuck" ).
This is an amazing result if you consider the price difference, with the 70-200L being about ten times as expensive than a 60-300 in mint condition! _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!
