Nikon F2, Nikkor 35/2.
The strange date on the right side was done by another camera I rolled the film thru.

Did you bribe that bird to stay put on the roof? Smile

gaeger, I'm not excessively knowledgeable, but in my opinion you have a gifted eye.
Again and again, I find your photos engrossing - even breathtaking.

Thanks for sharing your delightful images with us!
(And for reminding me I still have a lot to learn.)

This for me is a stand out image; composition and contrast: I could study it for quite some time.

Gosh, thank you so much for the compliment. I think that if you take enough pictures for as many years as I have, you get lucky!

So beautiful Gil !
Thank you.
Your flickr is fantastic.

Could you please tell us more on this photo ?
Was it during a flood or is this barn (house ?) just aside the water ?

Hi, Olivier: This is along Padilla Bay on the big delta of the Skagit River in Washington state. The river itself empties into a separate body of water. Because this is tidal land, the farms along the bay have tall dikes to protect them from seawater flowing onto the land. I'm not sure what they use this building for. It is maintained, so there is some use, but I can't tell if it's for storage or something else -- the lower level is frequently inundated by sea water. This dike is a particularly nice walk because it extends far along a slough and then out along the bay and finally back to higher ground. Lots of birds there -- on this hike this week I saw a great white egret for the first time. I like this place when there is moody lighting or when a storm threatens. When the tide is farther out, old farm machinery is exposed on the seaward side. A great place for photos.

Gil, thanks a lot for your explanations.
A great place for photos, as you say !
I like your black and white treatment. It brings all the mood and atmosphere wich enlighten the beauty of this very special place. You nailed it.
When I look at your photo, I remember Ansel Adams' and his books on exposition, the negative, and development.
