I think twin lens reflexes are difficult to master in the beginning. They're cameras that need a bit longer to get in touch with, that is. The first thing one have to deal with is the reversed image, once you get used to this you'll be ok. Did you used the magnifier to focus? When I first tried one of these I
did tend to forget to pop it out before to start focusing. If the viewing lens and the taking lens are properly aligned you should have no issue with focus, these lenses are renown for sharpness and resolution (even if these cameras were produced in several series with slightly different optics either Zeiss and Schneider). Check then if the fresnel lens is properly seated, slight misalignment could also affect focus. Did you checked the negative with a magnifying glass? If it looks sharp maybe you're scanner is not up to the task. I'd also use yellow filter to raise a bit the contrast. A final note IMO
square format require lot of practice to get good composition, unfortunately I have a long way ahead of me.
Talking about the pictures themselves I think #2 and #3 are good, the portrait of the two ladies almost good (you partly cut a coupla feet).
Don't get discouraged and good light...
PS: Is a fingerprint I see on the taking lens? If so that could possibly affect sharpness.
Cheers, Marty. _________________ Canon FD

The problem is multiple but the truth one, this is not the best result you can get from your beauty. First of all you have soft results from your scanner. Make more sharpening, you have the information but it is hidden.
Second, learn your beast and focus well.
GO ON !!

Thank you for comments and advice, most useful.
The front lenses was of course cleaned before the tryout.
I think I will try a color film in better light, I would like to see f11,16 1/125,1/250. _________________ Henrik
