I would like to remove tripod collar from my Sonnar to save some weight. It is possible to easily unscrew tubus with mounted collar from lens body, after removing one safety screw it is also possible to start unscrewing collar from tubus. But problem is, that after I get to some possition, it gets stuck and wont finish unscrewing. If I check inside tubus, then I dont see any problem why it is stuck. Tubus have different screw to mount to lens body. Is it supposed to be removable or it is "fixed"?

Picture just for info:

Rather sell it, hard to find in this condition and buy from sale price a lighter lens like Nikon 180 ED.

To alter, ruin rarities a crime against future generation, never alter rarities, just due have it and you can do it. My value estimation for this lens is 300 USD , look as investment, price will increase. If you sell it now income will coven another 180mm Zeiss without coller like Zebra or Nikon etc.

Didnt want to modify it - just thought, that collar is optional and you can unscrew it. But seems that you could only unscrew it about 2cm and then like if screw circles ended so it is stuck on tubus. Applied light force, wasnt able to unscrew, so its screwed back Smile

And I can look for that manual Nikkor so I can put this baby on ebay...

NEX7 - adapters for M42 and Exacta are on the way. Got this Sonnar and also other Sonnar 135/3.5 in zebra variant. I was missing longer zooms on NEX system, so trying something new. Also bought some Vivitar 2x telecon, no idea about quality, but was only one available for exacta mount (which have 180/2.Cool and for 20$ it was just simple bet. Got also 135/3.5 for 50$, actually it was my first manual lens and then I found 180 and had to buy it too. And now i'm stuck waiting for adapters coming from HK Razz

anyway have prety covered basic wide and mid zooms with 10-18/4 and 50/1.8 from sony, wanted something longer. Also have Sigma 19/1.8 and set lens 18-55, which is sitting in drawer for long time now Smile
