Okay now the known population of the 135/4 doubles in an instance. I wonder why no one has noticed any samples from the 1000-2000 range before. I actually have seen quite a few of this lens and all has serial number <1000.

Now this is an anomaly. The serial number is so early on that at first I tought it's a V3 with a V1 name ring. However upon closer look, nothing seems to be right. The real V3 has orange feet scale with only a single infinity symbol for both feet and meter. This guy has white feet scale with two infinity symbols, similar to the F-series 13.5cm. However the F distance scale doesn't have feet/meter units since the units were screened on its distinctive clear plastic windows. The all black dual rubber grip is similar to V3 but the hood is clearly from the F. Nice catch indeed Calvin.

Thanks for mention all the details. I can only notice the chrome strips on the hood which is not found on V3. Embarassed

Don't get me wrong. I do think this is an interesting discovery of a potentially very unique and collectible lens. I hope someone on this board would get the lens and report back whether it is a genuine transition product. Yes there is a chance that it could be a cleverly crafted Frankenstein but I don't think that is very likely.

My gut feeling as a collector tells me this is a genuine copy.

P.S. I have send an mail asking for a photo showing the lens mount.

Yes Topcon did aim high with the R series. The super fast 13.5cm/2 was one of the first in the series. Another notable fast lens was the Big Bertha 30cm/2.8 which was supposed to be as magnificent as its Howitzer namesake.

It's more common than the RE 85/1.8, I've been wanting it for a long while, if it's anywhere close to my 135/3.5 in performance, it will be a stellar performer.
