Thanks!

I'm a big fan of (all) RE Auto-Topcor, really should find more time to shoot with them. For their age and single coatings, they render really nicely. The 2.8/35 in particular is probably one of the sharpest lens I own.

As I posted in the old thread(because I forgot about this thread), I just won a black 28/2.8 like Mir's, but 1000 or so higher on the serial number, really looking forward to it.

Now that I have had my black RE 28/2.8 a while, I've found that infinity never gets sharp, it seems to be just past the 10M mark on the focus scale as distant objects get more OOF if I move the focus ring either way, my first thought is a reversed element, as I had reversed the rear element once in a 50mm lens and only infinity was soft, up close was sharp.
Your thoughts?

The last (and only time) i inversed an element, all i got was blur...
All through the range....

As i was flipping some and others trying to figure it out,
at some point i was getting an out of focus image but only at near range.... and it was not pretty...
It was with a wider lens.... I eventually got a lens diagram and straightened everything up..

Personnaly, i'd check the helicals.... someone must of been in there....

I'm wondering if it has a floating element that needs to be adjusted or if one of the elements needs a shim.
I'll take some test shots and post them tonight if I have time.

no floating elements....
all are screwed tight

Usually they must be screwed just as tight as they were before unscrewing...
I sometimes open up the lens block if some glass has to be cleaned... I make marks before unscrewing
so that i can put it back together as it was....

It might just be that things have loosen up throughout the years.....
But besides helicals and screw rings.... there's not much that moves around in there

I thought as much, but I've never opened an RE before, so I'm not sure what to expect, and the last thing I want to do is turn it into a paperweight.

Good idea.

I hope that's all it is.

That's what has me wondering what's up with it, time to dive in I guess, and have a look inside for something obvious.
I'll be checking to see if its decentered first, but I have my doubts, as most lenses I've worked on there is little room for the elements to move around.

Nice shots, any chance you could post some(1 or more) 100% crops of infinity shots so I can compare them to mine. Thanks in advance.
