Three questions, let's see who's good in replying right and don't google too much for answers
1) What does the T stand for, in the famous Zeiss "T" coating system?
2) What is the difference between the "T" system and the "T*" (T-star) system?
3) Zeiss developed the T* system together with another major lens-camera manufacturer. Who was it, and how the other manufacturer called their own version of it?
Have fun replying there's nothing to win though _________________ _

No. 3 - Rollei with HFT?
No. 2 - "Transparent"...?
No. 1 - 'T' is single coated while T* is multi-coated? |

@ Bob: aside from number swapping, you wrote two correct and one wrong. _________________ _

I won't play, since I have just read something about it and I do not want to spoil this quiz by quoting what somebody else had written.

I went for easiest first hence the reverse numbering.
@ Carsten: You can still play because Orio hasn't indicated which ones I got right and wrong, so it's still open. |

No, I mean I have read something about it in a book about Zeiss.
So it would not be fair and just end this quiz. _________________ There are two kinds of people in the world: those who divide the world into two kinds of people, and those who don’t.

We can anticipate that one of the answers will be a little surprise. _________________ _

Part right, poilu, but part wrong.
Here's the correct answers:
1) "T" stands for "Transparenz"
2) The T coating was a single calcium fluorite vaporization, while the T-star is made with three different vaporization layers of different metals, one for each light colour lenght (red, green and blue)
3) The company which worked with Zeiss on the T* coating is Pentax, and their version of it is called SMC (Super Multi Coated).

Orio your book is just bullshit, Zeiss T* was a reaction to pentax not a collaboration _________________ Have a nice day

Here's my understanding of the T* coatings. T* coatings were introduced in the fall 1972 with no fanfare. It was Zeiss's multicoating process. In 1974 Zeiss started marketing "T*" as a reaction Pentax's SMC (Super Multi Coated) lens ads.
Chrome Hasselblad lenses made in late 72 and 73 are T* though not marked. Early black C lenses are T* but not marked. My understanding is that in late 73/early 74 Zeiss started marking Hasselblad lenses as "T*". There are chrome C lenses that are marked T*. I have only seen this on a 80mm lens.
In 1982 while I was in Germany I spoke with the Zeiss factory about my chrome 250 Sonnar. I was told that it was a 1973 vintage lens and it was T* coated but not marked as such. |

Sorry, but I fail to see why this Anthony Oresteen should be considered a more reliable source than the article that I read (which in two different points mentions a Zeiss-Pentax collaboration).
At this point, I want to read more sources about it.

Very interesting. But it says it's optimized for motion picture film. So far the lenses in the Z series sport the T*
