Hello all.

I recently purchased several MF lenses on eBay, one of which arrived with the focus ring firmly jammed. Having some small luck in the past repairing MF lenses I've given this one a shot... I am, however, now stuck.

I figure that the most likely culprit is old grease but either way I figured I'd have to disassemble down to beneath the focus ring to tell. The lens doesn't appear to be the same as other Tessar 50mm f/2.8's where there are disassembly guides - there are no screws on the rear mount and the focus ring has a leathery-looking plastic piece in place.

I can't seem to get the img tags to work so I'm linking photos Sad

...oook. now the second half of the post has converted into a link going nowhere. Or is it just me? Sad

The lens:

Rear:

How far I've gotten:

Looking at http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-81.html... if the design is the same it seems that I need to remove one of the rings from the rear. Try as I might they won't budge, though.

So - any idea where to go from here?! The focus ring is firmly jammed at 0.8m though I can get it to go to MFD and back to 0.8 with a large amount of effort.

Any advice very much appreciated.

Shot in the dark here, but does the rear section of the lens just unscrew?

Good idea - I gave it a shot by turning clockwise and no luck there... can't get enough purchase to try counter-clockwise with what I have. I tried some small round rubber pieces + pushing in quite hard but it still slipped.

No dice Sad

Sorry, I should have said, I mean the outer part of the rear section. Can you just grab it in your hand and unscrew it counter-clockwise?[/b]

THANK YOU.

Sorted! Didn't think of twisting that part. The rear part is exposed now and it looks as though I should be able to get the rest of the way without too much trouble. Now I just have to find what on earth I did with my screwdrivers...

Thanks again Very Happy
