Our partner city is present here this weekend and holds the Provence market (shot using a self made soft focus lens on Lumix GH1)

erm people around the world might be interested in how other people live and you blur out most of the shots. Confused

These are wonderful, Dr. Schmitt! Very effective use of special lens 'qualities' imho. I may be imagining but I think I see more lifelike color rendition due to extended spectrum at red & blue ends? Colors from this lens are fantastic!

Does lens have a diaphragm? I'm thinking stopping down would drastically improve edge sharpness, but of course then the effect is lost.

Thanks, the lens has a built in multiblade aperture which was half closed when I took the shots, an (to me) appealing compromise between some center sharpness and softness around that center. The image curvature allows to "blur out" the non-center parts, so it actually creates some "tunnel view" which I wanted, so I can center the attention to what I like to show (ideal for my flower work). I call that the "just awoken from a dream" look.

Very well seen about the colors - the lens used is a pure quartz lens (not glass), so it also allows UV rays to pass and thus has more blue content in it.

Thanks poilu! Some people with a cataract have produced outstanding results - Claude Monet for instance!

Thanks Attila, I know "soft focus" images are an "acquired taste" and it takes to like them.
Like bitter, that liking usually develops when you get older, kids hate it, they only want sweet ... Wink

P.S.: these blue BG flowers are white actually, but reflect quite a bit UV.

I really enjoy your soft focus images , they are nice ones. I did try only onces with a soft focus lens result was very crap so I give it up.

We share the same experiences Attila, this is why I started to make my own soft focus lenses where I can control the result.
I never really liked the Sima or Paragon or Imagon (or Fujinon) results. The Kenko 85mm and 45mm are OK so far and I
use those lenses - actually I just sold three soft focus images for a coming new edition of a standard photography book,

published by FocalPress - Langford's Advanced Photography, Eighth Edition. (picture (c) FP, amazon.com)

I think most depends on the subject.
The last image that Klaus showed, the yellow flower, works beautifully with the dreamy atmosphere.
With all due respect, a virago selling cheese does not inspire me for a dreamy image Laughing

Klaus

Always informative and instructive. I am not normally impressed by "soft focus", but these are pretty spectacular!

@poilu
I suffered from cataracts - modern technology has now given me 20/20 vision, including correction of a lifelong astigmatism. Now I no longer need eyeglasses. So, there is hope

Thanks Patrick!

My mom had the same operation and she doing fine now - not sure if that should be a subject of jokes though. We're all not getting younger...
