Something wrong, the f8 Praktica shot is brighter than the f4 one, are you sure you got those the right way round?

I think you need to figure out your technique first, and do the testing in daytime.

I have tested in daytime and the results are similary blurred have had a couple of sharp shots but these seem to be at close range only does not focus at distance very well , so Im not too sure if the lens was dropped and been slightly misaligned .So if my tecnique is wrong then why are the shots from the OLYMPUS a hell of a lot better ,even when viewed through the evf I have the PRAKTICAR is a lot darker.

On the night time Praktica shots, you can see that they are out of focus, the fence post looks to be in focus in the first one.

If you have the Zuiko and it works well for you then why bother with the Prakticar?

Quite possibly, it's faulty, hence the lack of sharpness, although there is no reason why there would be any difference in exposure, have you checked that the aperture is behaving correctly by looking into the lens while turning the aperture ring?

It out of focus I agree but looking through the EVF it looked sharp enough set on the tripod with a 2 sec timer to let it settle but just cant get it to focus correctly no matter what I try .Aperture does seem to open and close correctly or could it be the aperture is slow to open but off camera seems ok .As to keeping it well the answer is may have to give it the elbow and sell it on although I do not know whats wrong with it and do not want any come backs will have to sell it as faulty I guess.

What camera are you using it on Dave? And more importantly, how are you using the camera with the old lenses?
If you are using the camera to set the aperture, then sticky blades / slow mechanism would probably be enough to keep the aperture from opening up properly using the cameras mechanism.
The method I use on the Sony NEX and Pentax K10 is to use the camera on shutter priority - set the aperture I want on the lens manually - then adjust the shutter speed to suit using the histogram, and visually in live view on the NEX. That way, or using the camera on manual, means the aperture is already set, and not relying on the camera to set it instantly.
And a better test of sharpness and focus is something solid like a car or house. Fir trees are horrible for checking lenses. My usual place is the churchyard, the gravestones don't move in the wind for a start, and I focus on a stone in the middle of a group of stones and shoot a series of pictures at each aperture without touching the focus, then a set adjusting the focus each shot. That way I can see if the focus is front or back.

Try the lens again Dave, post some more pictures.
